The Drones – “River Of Tears” (Live at The Hi-Fi, Brisbane)

The Drones – “Shark Fin Blues” Download

(Both from the live album release Live At The Hi-Fi available currently with a special CD version of Havilah and seperately on iTunes)

I don’t have too many live albums in my collection of CD’s. I normally think they are just an outlet for bands to bring out something in between releases to keep consistency between actual, studio releases. And in addition, I could never get the reasoning as to why people would want a track which you could get from an album that sounds better and more redefined. I formed this opinion a while ago though, and subsequently haven’t listened to a live album as such in a very very long time (I reckon for a couple of years at least).

I received The Drones’ latest release of live recordings lately and got reminded of these feelings when I started to play it in my CD player, but slowly and surely got won over when this Kev Carmody cover of “River Of Tears” blasted out. It was simply so light-bulb crashingly powerful and you can just hear the passion in Garath’s voice resonate through. I felt that the speakers on this little CD player of mine where going to collapse and melt into a pile of magma because of this track. I was blown away by it that’s for sure.

I need to state here that The Band Next Door is not liable for any damage caused to your computer speakers due to the raw musical might entailed. Please don’t sue.
